Abstract

This study investigates the effects of meal frequency, physical activity, and sleep parameters (duration/quality) on Body Mass Index and constipation severity. 299 non-pregnant, non-lactating individuals who had not dieted in the last 6 months (82.6% female, 17.4% male).- Constipation Severity Instrument, Insomnia Severity Index (ISI), and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index. The study participants had an average Body Mass Index (BMI) of 24.20 ±4.72kg/m2. Regarding digestive health, the average score on the Constipation Severity Instrument was 18.46±14.26, within a potential range of 0 to 65. Sleep metrics revealed that participants had an average Insomnia Severity Index (ISI) score of 6.05 ±4.68 (range: 0-20) and a Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) score of 12.38± 2.74 (range: 7-22). Statistically, a strong positive correlation (r=0.618; p<0.01) was identified between insomnia severity and overall sleep quality, indicating that as insomnia worsens, general sleep quality declines significantly. Additionally, a weak but significant positive correlation (r=0.229; p<0.01). The study also highlighted the role of lifestyle habits: meal frequency was found to cause a statistically significant difference in "Subjective Sleep Quality" (p<0.01). Furthermore, when participants were categorized by their BMI groups, a significant difference was observed in their "Daytime Dysfunction" scores (p<0.05).
